RE

At St. John’s, Religious Education is central to our Christian vision that all may Love, Learn and Flourish. Rooted in our Christian values, our RE curriculum enables every child to explore faith, spirituality, and the big questions of life within a caring and inclusive community. From the very start of their journey in the Early Years Foundation Stage, children begin to encounter RE through stories, celebrations, and opportunities to wonder about the world around them and the people who are special to them.

We follow the Southwark Diocese syllabus, which provides a rich framework for creative, engaging, and reflective learning. Teaching is guided through three key lenses – Believing, Thinking, and Living – which help pupils to explore what people believe, how those beliefs shape the way they think, and how faith is lived out in daily life. Through this approach, children develop a deep understanding of Christianity as a living faith that shapes our world, while also learning about and respecting other religions and worldviews.

Our RE curriculum encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy, helping children to grow in wisdom and to live out our vision – showing love in their relationships, learning with enthusiasm and courage, and flourishing as thoughtful, compassionate members of society.
