Applying for Free School Meals

Families are eligible for free school meals if you receive any of the following benefits:

  • Income Support

  • Income based Job seeker’s Allowance

  • Income –related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual income of that does not exceed £16, 190

  • Working Tax Credit ‘run on’ - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

An important part of the funding schools get is based on the number of children entitled to free school meals. We know that some families entitled to free school meals do not claim themmaybe because their child does not want to eat a hot meal and prefers to have a packed lunch, but we encourage you to apply if you are eligible.

Since April 2012, the school will only get the additional funding (‘pupil premium’) we and the children are entitled to, if students who are able to register for free school meals get registered, and stay registered.

We would urge you to register, whether or not your child wishes to eat a school meal regularly and assure you that the list is entirely confidential. In these difficult financial times it is important to the school that you register for free school meals if you are entitled to them.  No one will know you have registered and it will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.  If your child is registered for Free School Meals, he/she may also be entitled to financial help with the cost of school visits.    Please speak to Mrs Murphy in the office if you would like further details.
